Who Owns What?

The Royal Collection Trust

  • Many of the historic artifacts, paintings, and royal furnishings inside Osborne House are part of the Royal Collection, which is held in trust for the nation by the monarch.
  • Some of these items can be moved to other royal residences or exhibitions as needed.

English Heritage

  • Since English Heritage manages Osborne House, they oversee the preservation, restoration, and display of many of the objects on-site.
  • Some furniture and decorative pieces belong to English Heritage and remain at Osborne permanently.

Can the Royal Family Take Items from Osborne House?

  • Since much of the Royal Collection belongs to the nation, not personally to the monarch, items cannot simply be taken by the Royal Family.
