Camping vs hotel budget

Enter your nights, people and your own costs for up to three types of stay. Spread a one-off camping kit cost over the trips you'll use it for.

Your figures, not a quote. There are no default prices: every cost comes from you.

A planning guide, not advice.

Worked example

Made-up figures for two people and seven nights. Use your own quotes.

  • Campsite: £30 a night, food £20 per person per day, £150 of kit spread over 3 trips
  • Hotel or B&B: £110 a night, food £45 per person per day

Camping: 7 × £30 + 7 × 2 × £20 + £150 ÷ 3 = £540. Hotel: 7 × £110 + 7 × 2 × £45 = £1400. Difference: £860.

How it works

Each stay type: nights × cost per night + nights × people × food per person per day + nights × extras. The campsite also carries its kit cost ÷ the number of trips. Break-even shows how many nights camping takes to cover its kit share against each other option.

There are no default prices: every figure is yours.

Does it include fuel?

No. Use the trip fuel and charging cost calculator for that, then add the two together.
